Sticky Johnson Deluxe Black Wax

Sticky Johnson Deluxe Black surf wax is designed for any black surfboard. It's long-lasting and super grippy, and it beads up nicely on application, keeping you stuck to your stick all session long.

A big part of Black is the look: the dark wax sits into a black deck instead of showing up as a white smear, so your board stays looking sharp. Underneath, it grips like the rest of the Deluxe range.

Which water temperature? Black is a Cool grade, made for water around 15–20°C (59–68°F), which covers most of the year at plenty of New Zealand breaks. Because so many riders choose it for the colour, you can run it year round if you need to. Expect it to feel a little firmer in cold winter water and a little softer in summer heat.

Black sits in the Deluxe range alongside Cold, Cool, Warm, Tropical and Deluxe Basecoat, and it goes on over Deluxe Basecoat like any of our top coats. Start with a clean, dry deck, lay down the basecoat in a crosshatch, then work Black over the top with diagonal strokes one way and then the other, so it builds even bumps right across the area where your feet go. Before each session, rough it up with a wax comb and rub on a thin fresh layer so the bumps stay tacky.

Keep your board out of a hot car and direct sun between surfs, and do a full strip and re-wax every 2–3 months, or sooner if the wax looks flat, dirty or has lost its bumps. Made in New Zealand.
