Description

MEGA Johnson 2.0 Warm is the super tacky version of MEGA, our most tacky wax. It's a top coat for water between 20 and 24°C (68–75°F), designed to create a tacky surface that holds up once summer arrives.

Warm is firmer than Cool, so it holds its shape as the water heats up, and it's still tacky underfoot. Get the grade right for the water and you're not fighting your wax on every pop-up. Go by the water on the day as well as the calendar.

When to reach for it in New Zealand. Warm is the summer bar. Based on average monthly sea temperatures, it suits Ahipara, Muriwai, Piha and Mount Maunganui from January to April, Raglan from January to March, Gisborne in February and March, and Taranaki in February. The water around Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin doesn't average 20°C in any month, so Cool or Cold is the go down there.

On the road. Margaret River from December to June, Bondi from November to January and again from April to June, and the Gold Coast from June to October. Over in the States: Cocoa Beach in Florida from December to April, San Diego and New Jersey from July to September, and the Outer Banks from June to August plus October.

Lay it over Sticky Johnson Deluxe Basecoat and comb it before each surf. When the water cools off around May up north, strip it back and switch to MEGA Johnson 2.0 Cool. Keep your board in the shade or a reflective board bag between surfs, because even a firmer wax softens in a hot car. Made in New Zealand.

What water temperature is MEGA Johnson 2.0 Warm for?

20–24°C (68–75°F). Under 20°C, use MEGA Johnson 2.0 Cool. At 24°C and up, MEGA Johnson 2.0 Tropical is the firmer match.

What's the difference between Deluxe and MEGA 2.0?

Deluxe beads up really well for long-lasting grip. MEGA is our most tacky wax, and MEGA 2.0 is the super tacky version. Both go on over Deluxe Basecoat, so pick the line you like and the grade that matches your water temperature.

When should I switch to Warm in New Zealand?

At the northern breaks, the water averages 20°C or more from January to April, so that's Warm season. Further south it doesn't get there, so Cool or Cold stays on all year.

Can I use Warm wax in colder water?

It'll go on, but it won't grip well. Warm won't soften enough to stay tacky in cold water, so match your wax to the water.

Do I need a basecoat under it?

On a hard board, yes. Basecoat builds the firm bumps your top coat grips onto, so it lasts longer and doesn't slide around.

What is Sticky Johnson wax made from?

Well, it's actually a secret recipe developed over the last 20 years! We can't give away trade secrets but all we can say is it is chemically inert, making it reef safe, made from non-toxic natural minerals, and the world's best surfers have tested it in every condition and think it's the business.

Do I need to use a basecoat before applying surf wax?

A basecoat is highly recommended. Basecoat is a harder wax applied first to create a layer of textured bumps that your temperature-specific top coat grips onto. Without it, your top coat can slide around and wear off faster. Apply Sticky Johnson Basecoat in a crosshatch pattern first, then layer your Cool or Cold wax on top for maximum grip.
