Well, it's actually a secret recipe developed over the last 20 years! We can't give away trade secrets but all we can say is it is chemically inert, making it reef safe, made from non-toxic natural minerals, and the world's best surfers have tested it in every condition and think it's the business.

The difference is hardness. Tropical wax is the hardest (won't melt in warm water above 23°C). Cold wax is the softest and stickiest (stays tacky in frigid water below 14°C). Using the wrong temperature wax means either a melted mess or a slippery board. Match the wax to your water temperature for the best grip.

A basecoat is highly recommended. Basecoat is a harder wax applied first to create a layer of textured bumps that your temperature-specific top coat grips onto. Without it, your top coat can slide around and wear off faster. Apply Sticky Johnson Basecoat in a crosshatch pattern first, then layer your Cool or Cold wax on top for maximum grip.

Strip and fully re-wax your board every 2–3 months, or whenever the wax looks flat, discoloured, or has lost its beading. Between full re-waxes, comb your existing wax before each session and add a thin fresh top coat. If you're transitioning between seasons, strip the old wax and switch to the correct temperature formula.
